Smithsonian LB?

From: Silver Eagle (sileagle@alltel.net) | Date: 2004-04-08 13:12:46 UTC
I hope to visit Washington D.C. with the family this summer
and I have been looking at clues for that area. I don't
see clues for a Smithsonian LB and I thought I remembered
hearing that this was a box that you had to ask for at the
Visitor Center. Was there such a box and does it still
exist? If so, where are the clues? Any help on status
of other area letterboxes would be appreciated, too.

Silver Eagle,
There was a box there at one point under a drinking fountain. But it
was pulled due to some letterboxers who were not discrete. As far as
I know the box has not been replaced due to hightened security in our
nation's capital.
There are plenty of other boxes in walking distance of the 'Mall'
area though.

The ADG was touring the art museums in DC this weekend and I am able
to confirm that the letterbox that was in the Smithsonian castle is
now gone.
